Embarrassingly Old Work: Poetry: Be Careful What You Wish For, It May Never Happen – From 1995

I sit and ponder what it means to live
And what it really means to die
Always knowing somethings gotta give
Always knowing someone says goodbye

Knowing what it takes to make you feel
Knowing what to do to make it right
Knowing how to be, to keep it real
Knowing that it’s not an uphill fight

To think of simple pleasures, that’s the way
To dream of happiness, no longer fear
A bright new sun comes out to mark the day
A bright new moon comes out to mark the year

The rolling hills and vast wide open space
Sitting hanging out with just your soul,
A picnic lunch, and three leg relay race
I don’t know why, but I still don’t feel whole

I just pretend to stand up tall
And bask in pseudo-ecstasy
But in a breath I’d trade it all
To have you standing next to me
